I think they have definitely been delaying in order to sell more May '77 box sets. I think Dave, et al, are stunned that a Spring '77 release isn't sold out yet. I wonder how many downloads they've sold...

Dave's Picks 7 would have been chosen two months ago in order to be re-mastered and produced in time to release on August 1st. The only reason I'm thinking '78 is that someone else on Dead.net was hinting that they had inside info. It could be completely wrong, but they're are no other rumors out there. Last month, it seems that Dave was exploring both Spring '79 and Spring '84 on the 'Today in Grateful Dead History" radio feature on sirius. But, I think that a show from one of those tours would be considered for Dave's Picks 8 due to the timing...

Not sure i buy the inside info stuff however the 30 Days of Dead promo has been a pretty good harbinger of future releases over the past 3 years. This year we have the High Time from 5-17-77 and the HCS from 11-17-73 as well as the Black Peter from 2-11-70 that was part of the new stash of tapes that resulted in DaP 6. Now if you look at '78 you see a bunch of stuff in there:

Minglewood 2-4-78
Jack Straw 6-4-78
TMNS 4-21-78
Franklin's 5-9-78

I think the only other year that had 4 tracks was '77.

As i look back at this, i think if are going to get an '80s release i hope the S>F from 7-31-82 is the clue. Always liked that show.

7-31-82 is a real nice show, maybe best S>F of the year, but 08-03-1982 would be the kind nugget from that time and space...
